Take your traditional game of Pass the Parcel, add some dares and challenges, and you've got a great game for Christmas!
Things you need
- Unwanted newspapers and magazines for wrapping the parcel, or wrapping paper, or even better because it's environmentally friendly - the day's discarded Christmas present wrapping paper.
- Sticky tape
- Main prize
- Mini prizes
- Dares and challenges written on strips of papers
- MP3 player/ CD player etc. for the pass the parcel music - preferably Christmas carols or songs!
- A box/bag/hat or jar to hold forfeits
How to Play
Everyone sits in a rough circle - people can be on chairs, sofas etc.
You should explain to everyone, that while usually Pass the Parcel has nice things in it, like sweets, this one also has dares and challenges to boot! (This is to build anticipation, suspense and angst).
Start the music. As the music plays, the parcel is passed from person to person around the circle. When the music stops, the person with the parcel must take one layer of wrapping off (being careful not to take off the next layer), and see if they have any dare or challenge or prize!
If there is a dare or challenge, the person must read it aloud to the whole group, and then decide whether or not they will do it, or pay a forfeit.
Example Dares and Challenges
- Give the dog/cat/pet a kiss, then give a big howl/meow/pet sound
- Wear some knickers (clean, and prepared beforehand by host) on your head and run around the room five times
- Do the chicken dance
- ¡@
- Sing, complete with actions, 'I'm a Little Teapot'
- For the rest of the game, you are no longer allowed to talk, you can only make monkey sounds
- Give a kiss to the person directly on your left
- For the rest of the night, you must talk with a French/Irish/Scottish accent
