Female generic 1980s fashion

1980's Clothes

Skirts - Layered / tiered 'ra ra' skirts, ruffle skirts, skirts with really wide belts
The gym bunny look - leggings with legwarmers, gym suit with belt, sweatband
Bright colours and patterns - polka dots, stripes, checks (gingham), animal prints - leopard, tiger.
Power dressing - huge shoulder pads
Bike pants with fluoro stripes down the side
High waisted jeans - usually stone washed
Jumpers with big patterns
Stone wash denim
Big, puffy wedding dresses (Princess Diana)
Lace
Evening wear - fuchsia pink, purple, royal blue and sea greens, red in silk and polyester copies, puffy sleeves, bows.

1980s Hair

Hairstyles in the 80s was all about big and bouffy. You didn't go out without going through one can of hairspray or a big gob of mousse
Fringes were often teased to stand up
Madonna made the bleached hair - with roots showing - look cool.
Permed hair was fashionable too - eg. Charlene on Neighbours
Shorter hair was also in -eg. Lady Diana hair also known as Purdy hair
80s punk hair - mohawk
Vivid coloured hair - eg. Cyndi Lauper
Big hair bows, and bows in general. Often headbands were worn that were tied up and into a bow on the top or side of the head.

1980s Makeup

Lots of heavy eyeshadow and mascara. Eyeshadow colour was shades of brown (see Sheena Easton pic below), to bright blues and pinks.

Stilhettos
Plastic shoes - that dug into your feet and hurt like anything, but you wore them anyway
